"An Introduction to Physics" by Francisco Glover, SJ and Quirino Sugon Jr (C & E Publishing, 2017)
An Introduction to Physics presents physics concepts and principles in a way that emphasizes the inner coherence and wonder of the material world, not merely a jumble of unexciting equations. It features clear and concise discussion on even the most difficult physics topics. As such, the book engages STEM students--not just engineering or mathematics students--to gain a deeper understanding of the physical world as they learn about force, motion, and energy, and how knowledge of these and other physical phenomena help them define their place in the universe.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Fr. Francisco Glover, Ph.D., S.J. holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Theoretical Physics from Saint Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. A naturalized Filipino citizen born in the U.S., his first stint in teaching physics was at ATeneo de Manila University in 1950. Since then, he has taught Physics, Math, and Computer Engineering at Ateneo de Manila University, Ateneo de Davao University, and Notre Dame schools in South Cotabato. He has a special interest in the design and fabrication of student laboratory equipment for Physics and Electronic Engineering.
Quirino Sugon Jr., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics of Ateneo de Manila University and Program Manager of Upper Atmosphere Dynamics at manila Observatory. He graduated with degrees of B.S. in Physics (1997), M.S. in Physics (1999), and Ph.D. in Physics (2010) from Ateneo de Manila University. He has taught physics for 15 years, starting at the University of St. La Salle from 1999 to 2002, before moving to Ateneo de Manila University. He has written several peer-reviewed book chapters and journal articles on the applications of Geometric Algebra in Mechanics, Electromagnetics, and Optics. At Manila Observatory, he works on space weather research using MAGDAS magnetometers, FMCW radars, and GPS satellites.
